I remember in my childhood I spend my time mostly outdoors playing football, playing with friends. Now things changed, kids are not interested much to play outside. They are interested in playing on mobile, watching tv, etc.
In my last vacation to my native place, My 4 years old son. Not interested to write he wants to play all the time. I read somewhere if we offer some reward kids will be interested to write. So I found the reward will be giving my mobile phone to play for 10 min if he writes. My assumption was right. He started writing. And I ket giving mobile phone at regular intervals. Few days continued the same way. and it becomes a habit for him.
My vacation finished and I came back to Dubai. Now my son routine bit changed, instead of writing he keeps asking for mobile phones frequently because the mother is too busy to spend time with him. here I learned two things how a habit is forming and how human exploiting the situation
The habit life cycle is
Cue -> Routin -> Reward
When you wake up from the bed you looking for the phone and scrolling through the phone and feeling the happy moments is one another example we can easily relate.
How to apply in our lives
In the last speech I mentioned, I had a lot of health issues but couldn't speak about how I overcome that. By making use of this power of habits, I made a shift that helped me. First I have identified what is stopping me to do exercise that once reaches home I am becoming too lazy to go outside. So I decided to do the exercise and come home. Then I found a small park near my office and every day after office I will go to the park and come back to home. The first week I walked for a km and slowly made to 4 to 5 km walking per day and still continuing. When summer started I changed the routine to go to the nearby gym and do some thread mill and exercises and come back home. It made a lot of changes. The recent medical report shows I am all right.
Habit is like planting a tree. Did you see the mango tree? It doesn't need much care attention once it reached a certain height. It will surprise us every season with plenty of mangoes. Like that, once you instilled the good habits in you it will make you a wonderful personality with not much effort.
